Chiddingfold 7 Fetcham 2 (League)
30th January 2005
‘It’s those magic boots!’
Mike Oatridge, as
Rupert scores with a fantastic lob wearing the manager’s boots, after his had
visibly fallen apart on the pitch.
Although only 1-1 at half-time, the boys always looked in
control of this match, and eventually overwhelmed Fetcham with a glut of goals
in the second half.
The opening period of the game was end-to-end, with
goalkeeper Mike yet again showing his bravery and ability, especially in
one-on-ones, and Will showing his honesty when he kept going even though he had
been fouled, and could have won a penalty by going down in the Fetcham area –
WELL DONE WILL.
Ironically the boys went a goal down after five minutes,
against the run of play, but they soon equalised after a super passing move
between Will, Kirk and Eddie, left Eddie in enough space for a long range
thunderbolt into the net, 1-1.
Fetcham did look dangerous when they counter-attacked, but Man
of the Match Josh stood firm and the pressure was all ours, with Rupert
bringing some fine saves out of the Fetcham keeper before half-time.
In the second half we finally went ahead with a brilliant
Scott effort but it was Fetcham’s turn to equalise with a pinpoint lob, 2-2.
Just as the supporters were starting to feel nervous, Rupert broke through again
for Scott to put us ahead once more, and that was it for Fetcham.
