‘I enjoyed that – it was played in a really good spirit’

What a relief after last week! A normal, decent game of football. Even their referee, who has awarded some surreal decisions to both sides in the past, put in a good performance.

In truth 7-0 flattered us a little. Horsley created plenty of chances but lacked the finishing touch and, when they were on target in front of goal, found Mike in impassable form. Nevertheless the boys were in great spirits against a side which has sometimes been a bit of a bogey team for us in the past.

Rupert opened our account with a delicious chip over the advancing keeper in the second minute. Jonathan Bt made it 2-0 with another great chip following a superb long-distance through ball by joint Man of the Match Kirk, who has been in outstanding form all season. Jon got his second goal not long afterwards, when he brilliantly rounded the keeper, and completed a hat-trick by half-time after a typical breakaway.

In the second half, the chaps just carried on, with joint Man of the Match Daryl his usual tenacious self at full back. Goal six has to be a contender for Goal of the Season. Steve put a typically superb long ball through from deep in our half, Rupert chased it right down to the far right touchline then, without looking up, whipped in a devastating cross to the far post, where Scott met it like a bullet on the far post; ecstasy amongst the supporters.

Scott was on hand again for the final goal when his sheer persistence left the final score 7-0.
