Chiddingfold 4   Teddington 5 (League)

5th December 2004

‘We simply have to win games like this.’

Entertaining for the neutral but a disappointing result against a team which we should have beaten.

Teddington went a goal up on five minutes, slicing through the half asleep defence far too easily. The boys began to get back into it, though, with Mike in goal, again in outstanding form, and on ten minutes missed an open goal when it would have been far easier to score.

Our pressure began to tell, though, and we eventually equalised after good work from Jonathan Bt put Scott through. We rode our luck at times, but also looked very dangerous on the break, and duly went 2-1 up just before half-time when great battling from joint Man of the Match Richard won the ball, which he crossed for Jon Bt to poke in.

Soon after half-time a superb move from Scott over on the right put the ball in for Richard to volley a phenomenal shot which nearly took the keeper’s head off. Fellow Man of the Match Hassie was dictating the play whenever the ball came near him and we were looking good.

Then things started to slip. A rare fumble from Mike at the back made the score 2-2, then Teddington went ahead following a counter attack. The match was opening out now and we equalised again thanks to Scott. The boys kept doggedly going and Rupert in particular put the opposition under pressure from break-aways.

Unfortunately Teddington went a goal up again when the defence went into statue mode, 4-3, and then they were two up when we were caught out at the back. Finally Jon Bt superbly headed our fourth, 5-4, but it was not enough and, frustratingly, Teddington took the points.
